Brand Name
Ingenuity Baby Products
Manufacturer
KIDS II, INC.
Model Name
Dream & Glow Bassinet Mattress Pad and Fitted Sheet
Product Description
The Ingenuity Dream & Glow Bassinet mattress pad is a thin, lightly padded surface designed for use only inside the Dream & Glow bassinet frame. It includes a custom-fitted sheet with soft fabric and decorative patterns. The mattress is intended for supervised, firm-surface sleep in a bassinet and should not be used outside of that context.
Case Details
On July 5, 2024, a 3-month-old baby girl was placed on top of a bassinet mattress and sheet on an adult bed. During the night, she tragically suffocated and died of asphyxia. When discovered, the mattress contained a significant amount of bloody fluid, suggesting the infant had struggled before her death.
While the product was not used in accordance with its intended purpose, this incident highlights a growing concern: many caregivers may unknowingly misuse infant mattresses or accessories, especially if packaging, instructions, or product labeling are vague, worn, or missing.
Injury Brief
Although bassinet mattresses are designed to fit snugly into enclosed, firm-sided bassinets, they become unsafe when placed on flat or soft surfaces, such as adult beds. The baby can:
- Roll onto their face and re-breathe carbon dioxide
- Sink into the soft bedding or edges of the mattress
- Be trapped between the mattress and adjacent objects, leading to fatal asphyxia
This tragedy occurred with a mattress pad and fitted sheet designed for the Ingenuity Dream & Glow Bassinet, produced by KIDS II, INC. under the Ingenuity Baby Products brand.

Liability
According to the report, the mattress and label were worn beyond legibility. The product is now in police custody as part of an ongoing investigation. Unfortunately, worn or faded labeling on infant sleep products:
- Makes it difficult to verify safety recalls
- Prevents parents from checking usage guidelines or warnings
- Can delay or prevent manufacturer accountability
Manufacturers have a duty to ensure that product labels remain durable and legible for the life of the product — especially when passed down between families or used in daycares or care facilities.
