January 9, 2026 – A recent incident report details a critical safety defect in the Connecticut Electric Model CESMPSC55GRHR 50 Amp RV outlet box, highlighting a significant fire and equipment damage risk due to improperly secured wiring. Consumers are urged to exercise caution and inspect their units.

Incident Overview
The incident, reported on December 14, 2025, involved a Connecticut Electric Model CESMPSC55GRHR Internet #100669936 RV outlet box during installation in a home/garage/RV storage environment. The user, while installing the unit, discovered that the large stranded wiring connecting the 50 amp RV outlet to its associated circuit breakers would easily pull out of the breaker terminals.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that the screws provided on the circuit breakers were too short. These screws were bottoming out before they could properly secure the wires within the connections. The alert consumer was able to identify this defect and took immediate action by replacing the short screws with longer, threaded screws to ensure proper wire termination. The consumer expressed concern that less observant individuals might miss this critical flaw, leading to potential future hazards.
Safety Concerns
This identified defect presents several severe safety concerns:
- Immediate Dangers: The primary immediate danger is the potential for electrical arcing and overheating at the loose wire connections within the outlet box. This can lead to localized melting of components, smoke, and ultimately, an electrical fire inside the box. Such an event poses an immediate threat to life and property.
- Long-Term Risks: Over time, with consistent high amperage loads typical of RV usage (such as running an HVAC system), the loose connections will inevitably worsen. This constant movement and resistance can lead to a sustained arc, increasing the risk of fire. Even without immediate ignition, the prolonged overheating can degrade insulation and other electrical components, compromising the entire electrical system.
- Who Might Be Affected: Consumers who have purchased and installed this specific Connecticut Electric RV outlet box, particularly those who may not have the expertise or attentiveness to notice the faulty wiring connection during installation, are at risk. RV owners connecting their vehicles to such a box could unknowingly subject their valuable RVs and personal safety to significant danger.
- Property Damage Potential: A fire originating in the outlet box could spread to the surrounding structure (home, garage, or RV storage), causing extensive property damage. Furthermore, the incident report specifically highlights potential damage to the RV’s HVAC system and other sensitive electronics within the RV due to low and/or fluctuating system voltage resulting from the poor connections. This could lead to costly repairs or complete replacement of expensive RV components.
What Consumers Should Do
Given the serious nature of this reported defect, consumers who own or have installed the Connecticut Electric Model CESMPSC55GRHR RV outlet box should take the following actions:
- Immediate Steps to Take: If you have this product installed, do not use it until it has been thoroughly inspected. If it is currently in use, immediately disconnect any RVs or devices drawing power from it and turn off the associated circuit breaker at your main service panel.
- How to Check if You Own the Affected Product: Verify the model number (CESMPSC55GRHR) and internet/SKU numbers (Internet #100669936, Store SKU #1000498537) against your purchase records or the product labeling on the unit itself.
- Prevention Measures: If you have identified this product in your possession or installed:
* Do not attempt to fix it yourself unless you are a qualified electrician. Electrical work can be dangerous and should only be performed by professionals.
* Contact a licensed electrician to inspect the wiring connections within the outlet box. The electrician should verify that all wires are securely fastened to the circuit breakers and replace any inadequate screws with appropriate, longer ones that ensure proper termination.
* Ensure the electrician performs a thorough check for any signs of overheating, arcing, or damage to the wires or internal components.
- Reporting Procedures: We strongly encourage consumers who encounter this issue or similar problems with this product to report it to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) at www.cpsc.gov. Your reports are vital in identifying hazardous products and initiating safety actions.
