Incident Overview

According to the incident report dated August 6, 2026, a consumer purchased an Apollo Explore 2.0 e-scooter which was delivered with a defective throttle. The throttle reportedly exhibited a “sticky” characteristic, preventing it from returning to a neutral position and thus impeding the scooter’s ability to slow down or stop reliably. The consumer indicates they attempted to resolve this significant defect with Apollo Imports Inc. for several months. Despite these efforts, the issue persisted, and the defect eventually culminated in an accident that resulted in an injury to the rider.

Safety Concerns

The reported defect with the Apollo Explore 2.0’s throttle poses critical safety concerns for riders and those in their vicinity:

  • Immediate Dangers: A sticky or unresponsive throttle can lead to an immediate loss of control over the e-scooter’s speed. This can result in unintended acceleration, inability to slow down, or difficulty stopping, drastically increasing the risk of collisions with obstacles, pedestrians, or other vehicles. Such incidents can cause severe falls, impacting the rider’s head, limbs, and torso.
  • Long-Term Risks: Persistent throttle issues, if not immediately addressed, amplify the likelihood of repeated accidents and potential for cumulative injuries. These could range from minor abrasions and sprains to severe fractures, concussions, internal injuries, or even fatalities in high-speed impact scenarios.
  • Who Might Be Affected: Riders of the Apollo Explore 2.0 are directly at risk. Additionally, pedestrians, cyclists, and occupants of other vehicles sharing roads or pathways with the e-scooter are indirectly exposed to the danger of an uncontrolled or runaway device.
  • Property Damage Potential: An accident caused by a defective throttle could lead to significant damage to the e-scooter itself, as well as damage to other vehicles, personal property, or public infrastructure.

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers who own an Apollo Scooter Apollo Explore 2.0 should take the following precautions:

  • Immediate Steps: If you experience any stickiness, delayed response, or irregular behavior from your e-scooter’s throttle, stop riding the scooter immediately. Do not attempt to use the product until the issue has been professionally inspected and resolved.
  • How to Check for the Affected Product: Verify your e-scooter is an Apollo Explore 2.0, Model 4131 PC10. Riders should conduct a basic pre-ride inspection of the throttle by manually operating it to ensure it moves freely and smoothly, returning to the neutral position without hesitation. This should be done prior to engaging power or riding.
  • Prevention Measures: Regularly inspect all controls on your e-scooter for proper function, wear, and tear. Adhere to manufacturer maintenance guidelines. If any anomaly is detected, cease use and contact the manufacturer or a certified service center.
  • Reporting Procedures: If you have experienced a similar issue or have concerns about your Apollo Explore 2.0’s throttle, report the incident to Apollo Imports Inc. immediately. You should also file a detailed report with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) at www.cpsc.gov to help prevent future incidents.

Manufacturer’s Response

Apollo Imports Inc. responded to the incident report on August 12, 2026, acknowledging the consumer’s initial contact on May 20, 2026. The manufacturer stated that upon receiving the initial report, they immediately advised the customer in writing not to ride the scooter until the issue was fully resolved, even before troubleshooting began. Apollo also indicated that their technical team actively worked with the customer for several weeks, identifying the issue as related to clearance between the throttle housing and cover—a mechanical fit issue specific to that unit. They claim this is the only throttle-related complaint received for all Apollo Explore 2.0 units sold. Apollo further stated that they offered the customer a warranty replacement of the component at no cost with waived shipping, as well as professional repair at their service facility. The manufacturer noted that the customer ultimately pursued a credit card dispute before either resolution was completed, but affirmed their commitment to resolving the matter and ensuring rider safety.
