On June 17, 2026, a consumer reported a severe safety incident involving a 2026 Can-Am Maverick RR UTV. The vehicle was reportedly brand-new, completely unmodified, and had only 202.2 total miles on the odometer, operating well within its initial factory break-in period. While the owner was operating the UTV normally on flat, standard terrain, a catastrophic structural safety failure occurred without any prior warning.
The incident was traced to a critical factory-installed structural fastener – specifically, the locknut and bolt securing the front driver’s side upper control arm directly to the vehicle’s frame – backing out completely and falling out of the chassis. This failure is suspected to be due to either a complete lack of initial torque from the manufacturing facility or being missed during the dealer’s pre-delivery inspection (PDI).
Upon the bolt vibrating free and exiting the frame tab, the structural integrity of the front independent suspension collapsed instantly. The upper control arm separated fully from the vehicle’s frame, causing the entire front wheel assembly, spindle, and tire to fold outboard and violently collapse sideways under the chassis. This mechanical failure resulted in an immediate and total loss of steering control.
