Incident Overview

According to the incident report dated January 16, 2026, a consumer reported that their Fitbit Sense 2 Advance Health and Fitness Smartwatch caused a burn to their left wrist. The specific details surrounding the incident, such as the duration the device was worn, whether it was charging at the time, or the severity of the burn, were not provided in the initial report. However, the report clearly indicates the smartwatch as the cause of the injury.

Safety Concerns

The reported burn from a Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatch presents several serious safety concerns for consumers:

  • Immediate Dangers: The most immediate danger is a thermal burn, which can range from first-degree (redness, pain) to second-degree (blisters, severe pain) or even third-degree (charring, numbness due to nerve damage). Burns can cause significant pain, discomfort, and require immediate medical attention. In severe cases, they may lead to infection or require surgical intervention.
  • Long-Term Risks: Beyond immediate pain, burns can result in long-term complications such as permanent scarring, changes in skin pigmentation, chronic pain, and nerve damage. The risk of infection is also present if the burn wound is not properly cared for.
  • Who Might Be Affected: Any individual wearing the Fitbit Sense 2 smartwatch could potentially be affected. Those with sensitive skin, or who wear the device for extended periods, or those who wear it too tightly, might be at a higher risk of developing skin irritation or experiencing a burn should a device malfunction occur.
  • Property Damage Potential: While the primary concern in this incident is personal injury, severe overheating in a device could, in rare circumstances, pose a fire hazard, potentially leading to property damage, though this was not indicated in the current report. The focus here remains on personal injury.

What Consumers Should Do

If you own a Fitbit Sense 2 Advance Health and Fitness Smartwatch, especially if you have experienced any discomfort or unusual warmth while wearing it, consider the following actions:

  • Immediate Steps: If you experience any discomfort, burning sensation, or notice redness, blisters, or a burn on your skin while wearing the device, remove it immediately. Seek medical attention for any burns or persistent irritation. Document the incident by taking photos of the injury and the device.
  • How to Check if You Own the Affected Product: Verify that your smartwatch is a “Fitbit Sense 2 Advance Health and Fitness Smartwatch sense2.” The model name is usually found on the device’s packaging, in the accompanying manual, or within the device’s settings menu.
  • Prevention Measures:
  • Ensure the device is worn with a comfortable, not overly tight, fit.
  • Follow all manufacturer instructions for wear and charging.
  • Monitor the device for any unusual heat, swelling, or changes in performance.
  • If the device feels excessively warm to the touch, discontinue use and contact the manufacturer.
  • Only use manufacturer-approved charging cables and adapters.
  • Reporting Procedures: If you or someone you know has experienced a similar incident, report it immediately to the manufacturer (Fitbit, Inc) and to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) at www.SaferProducts.gov. Detailed reports help regulators track incidents and take appropriate action.
