Case Details
On June 11, 2024, an 11-month-old baby girl drowned after the suction cups on her Keter baby bath ring seat failed to stick to the bathtub. The infant slipped underwater while in the bath seat. Although her parent was able to restore a heartbeat and call for emergency medical services, she had suffered severe complications and was life-flighted to a hospital, where she tragically passed away the following day.
This devastating incident is not an isolated case, infant bath seats have been responsible for multiple deaths due to stability and suction issues.
Injury Brief
Many parents assume that baby bath seats provide extra safety, but Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports show that these products often create a false sense of security. Major risks include:
- Weak or faulty suction cups, leading to tipping or detachment.
- Design flaws that allow water to quickly cover a baby’s nose and mouth.
- False sense of safety, which may cause caregivers to step away for even a moment, increasing drowning risk.
The CPSC has issued multiple warnings and recalls on infant bath seats and rings, citing stability issues and multiple fatalities.
Retailers
The bath seat involved in this tragedy was manufactured by Sunterrace Casual Furniture, Inc. under the Keter brand and was purchased from Amazon on May 10, 2023.

Liability
Manufacturers of baby products have a legal obligation to:
- Thoroughly test baby bath seats for safety and stability.
- Warn consumers about drowning risks.
- Issue recalls when defects are discovered.
Failing to properly design and test baby bath seats has led to multiple infant deaths, making manufacturers liable for product defects and wrongful deaths.
